iPhone SDK February 2008

By Korabi On October 18, 2007 Under Handphone, Mp3 Player, News

Today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs posted an open letter on their web site mentioning that Apple will release a SDK for iPhone and iPod Touch. Let me explain SDK stands for software development kit. It is a tool to let software developers to develop applications based on the standard example and API released by the suppliers. Without the SDK, software developers will not have the proper platform to develop software, but they could do it by illegally hack into the system.

So, hacking isn’t what Apple wants to see, they also can’t any stand the pressure from the community. With the SDK, more cool software will be released in the next 6 months, which would definitely boost the sales of iPhone.

A successful example is the Nokia Internet Tablet N800 series. Nokia has fully open source and that has boost the development of application to work on their platform. Nokia now just focus on the development of the hardware and leave the rest software development trouble to the community.

Back to the story, Apple will only release the SDK until next February. So meantime, we can expect more apps will hack their way onto iPhone. For the SDK, that is surely a long wait for iPhone and iPod Touch fans.
