Asus EEE PC Killer - MSI Wind

Sunday 18 May 2008 @ 9:03 pm

MSI has finally announced the EEE PC killer - Wind. MSI Wind will go for under $500 and will be on the market in June. What cool about Wind compare to Asus EEE PC is the 10 inch screen with resolution up to 1024×600 pixel and 80GB HDD. Besides that, MSI Wind is adopting Intel latest UMPC processor ATOM with 1 ~ 1.6Ghz.

Wind comes in two OS version, XP and Linux Novell version. However, Linux Novell will aim for a lower price and a lower spec. So, if 512MB RAM and lower battery life is alright for you, then you can buy the XP. The dimension of Wind is 10.23" x 7.08" x 0.748" ~ 1.24" and the weight is 2.3lbs for Linux and 2.6lbs for XP. I guess the main different of the weight is just the battery capacity.

Microsoft OOXML Rejected

Wednesday 5 September 2007 @ 6:03 pm

OOXML stands for Office Open XML. PC users who used Microsoft Office 2007 should familiar with this as it is the default file format. Recently, Microsoft has tried to get OOXML standardize by ISO.

Although, at the first round Microsoft successfully to get 74% support from the voting members. But only 53% of the voting P-members support it. To win it, one should get 2/3 of the votes. Many national bodies have also voted against this standard. The reasons are due to the date format, languages support and compatibility to the existing standard.

More disadvantages of the OOXML is because of the cost. Competitors like openoffice.org offer the same feature on document formats and also are free.

Phelios: Independent Game Developer

Tuesday 28 August 2007 @ 11:46 pm

I enjoy computer games during my weekend. But I am not playing those big game developers like Blizzard Inc. I actually more addicted to small games created by independent developer. Sometimes, I found them are even more creative and amusing.

Phelios is an independent game developer that offers downloadable games. It has a wide range of quality games from PC games to mac games to even Linux games. I am not sure about mac games, but I do play PC, Linux and Pocket PC games. And my all-time favorite is still rpg games. I enjoy the rpg stories a lot.

You might want to visit Phelios today to try out their interesting games.

Software Review - Golden FTP Server

Saturday 30 June 2007 @ 1:56 am

During my university time staying in the school hostel, one of the most common method people sharing files across local network is using FTP. The reason people use FTP as a bridge for file exchanging is because the stability, control rights and secure connections.

From my experience, having right FTP server software is an important to both novice and professional users. FTP server with feature to limit the speed, cache and users to access is a main factor to protect your hard disk and server life span.

I would like to recommend Golden FTP Server. It is a simple interface and light weight FTP server software to set up and simply execute it without any pain even for users with basic computer skill. The features provided are yet powerful. It has all the basic functions suppose to be on every FTP server, from password protection, numbers of users downloading and uploading and speed limitation and etc. Also, it supports multi-threaded downloads, this brings convenient to users to resume aborted downloads.

40% of Electricity Waste on Shut Off Devices

Monday 25 June 2007 @ 11:56 am

Came across this article on The NY Times showing that while home electronics are turned off, they consumed 40% more electricity than when it is on. A testing shows that when the DVD player was using 27 Watts in idle mode, but it used up 47 Watts when shutting down. This is a great amount of wastage! So next time, maybe you want to consider to put your electronic devices into standby mode rather than completely shut it off.

The journalist also mentioned a free useful software to help on power saving. It is Co2 Saver. It gives users a control panel to specify the exact time to turn off monitors and disk drives and properly put the machine to sleep compare to Windows XP and Vista Sleep method. Continue Reading »

Free Windows and other software CD Key Give Away

Tuesday 24 April 2007 @ 7:53 am

Thanks for the power of search engine, now you are able to easily search cd key by just typing

intitle:”Belarc Advisor Current Profile” “Software Licenses”

The reason behind this is because Belarc Advisor is a software that is able to show a profile of all the software you installed on your desktop and of course with the cd key. And it will generator the information into HTML code. This allows you to upload your profiles onto internet directly. I would say only careless end user without notice posting their generated result will cause this.

Google Pinyin

Monday 9 April 2007 @ 7:53 am

Those who often use XP internal Chinese Input should definitely change to Google Pinyin. I have tested it and it is fabulous! It has a good responsive time which is 10 times quicker than XP one. Besides, it has some special features like smarter sentence building and popular words. The popular words is getting update from the top latest keywords from internet.

Some of the users have the habit of typing English and Chinese at the same time. Google understands this and add in a neat user-friendly functions where users do not need to switch back to English input method to key in English.

But of cause, there are plenty of voices said that Google is copying another Chinese famous search engine Chinese Input method - Sogou Pinyin Input Method. While I have tried it, I did find out there is a lot similarities and even the database would have some “similarity”. By typing the developers name of Sogou, you can find it in Google’s too?! Isn’t this obvious some plagiarist.
